We have no right

This article was one of the first statements of my point of view on architecture and how architects violated the right of the green environment to grow in urban areas. The article was written in 2016, in the first semester of my master’s degree in architecture. Professor Saed Khaghani asked us to write an article based on our opinion without any scientific paper or thesis format, and I tried to describe why I chose architecture and what my mission in this field is.

The article is in Persian and starts with the right of soil, plants, and nature to reach their goal of creation, which is their excellence and associate with the excellence of the whole world. Then it describes how human violates this right by constructing cities and kills several generations of these creatures and also how he hurts himself by destroying urban green infrastructures.

The first season is the historical approach of humans to nature. Then, the article’s approach to the soil, green infrastructure, and nature in urban areas was determined. In the third season, an idea was described to design a green urban area that respects nature as a creature as a human. In this season, it was described how to design buildings to occupy much less area, construct structures with much less materials, generate energy from renewable energies, create a new transportation concept with less emissions, and how to determine 21th centuries architecture principles. In the last season, the implementation of ideas is described, and I highlighted my master’s thesis to respond to these challenges.

Interestingly, two years later, I wrote my master’s thesis exactly based on the things I wrote in this article. Moreover, I registered two patents later exactly based on the renewable energy concept in this article. These patents are scientifically proved as two papers in 2021, which are CSP for sustainable architecture and classification of energy production in the simulated urban area by a machine learning approach.

I would like to share the translation of some statements of this article:

Preface:

Wherever you leave the soil alone, a plant grows from it, life begins, and different animals are fertilized in a loving bed; they excel and reach the goal of their creation. One of these creatures is humans, who make asphalt or concrete on this soil and slaughters several generations of plants and animals in their semen. Plants and animals are like humans and have the right to life. Is being the Caliph of God really a reasonable justification for destroying the lives of others? What cruel and ignorant kings for nature!

In this article, nature is not seen as an object that can only be beneficial for human beings, and human beings should value it in order to use it, but nature is considered as a living being that has the right to live like human beings. Human has trampled on its right in recent centuries and must seek to compensate for it and stop this process that leads to the destruction of nature and man himself. Among human societies, designers, including architects, are responsible for these historical catastrophes that oppress nature. The mission of this article is to make these people aware and change the architectural process.

Chapter One: Soil, the Origin of Nature; The Right to Life

Although the soil is not rare to become a pure gem, when it combines with precious water, a rare gem will grow, which is created for a reason and has excellence. Perhaps excellence in every part of the world is dependent on its individual organs and will influence human excellence. What do we know? Maybe the growing of a plant on the other side of the globe will make a difference in our lives, like what appears in the butterfly effect phenomenon.

70 % of the world's agriculture depends on bee pollination. Nature is like an intertwined coil or a string of different factors, or even a system that can be thought to be disrupted if all of it is disrupted. Asphalts and concretes in the cities have become a cause of respiratory destruction, and the destruction of the life cycle disrupts the whole system.

Let us look more wisely; every creature does not impose its remnants on the earth after their life, and all of them give back all the things that nature has given them for a while. However, the man not only tramples the right of nature during his life but after the end of his life, his impacts stay away from nature for thousands of years and usurp the loan that nature has given him to live.

Many trees are cut down every day and used by humans. Innocent people were once killed by other humans until human social consciousness had increased and legislated some laws to end this process. Once upon a time, the uncontrolled hunting of animals progressed to the point of extinction for generations so that humans set rules for hunting. This increase in knowledge and collective wisdom of humans has reached a point where it has created rules for cutting down trees and plants. Now, it is the time for the human to understand the value of soil and bind himself to laws for its value.

Thanks to Prof. Dr. Khaghani for giving me the opportunity to write such an article so that I can write what I had in my mind without a specific format, which is an article or a book or a footnote or whatever. Although it is scattered and incoherent, it described the pain of the architectural heart due to the architects' disregard for nature.
